Parody of "Allentown" by Billy Joel

Well we’re listening to Billy Joel
From "Piano Man” to “All About Soul"
But for Nancy it’s The Longest Time
She’s in no New
York State of Mind

In all Honesty she can't stand that guy
And So it Goes, please Don’t Ask Me Why
In My Life I could not do without
But with his music on
She’s Movin’ Out
Cause we’re listening to Billy Joel

Should I Leave a Tender Moment Alone
Or persuade that Modern Woman to stay?

Now we’re listening to Billy Joel
She’s Only Human, so I’ve got a goal
She’s Always a Woman whose mind can change
It's A Matter of Trust
I'm Keeping the Faith
Then I tell her he’s an Innocent Man
There’s no Pressure to be his biggest fan
When I Tell Her About It she just might
Finally say
"You May Be Right"
While we’re listening to Billy Joel

But though It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me
He’s The Entertainer she just can’t take

Nancy wonders why he’s such a Big Shot:
“So he paints “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant"!
That Uptown Girl says that I Go To Extremes
She won’t be paddling down his River of Dreams

I'm still listening to Billy Joel
Nancy says "This Is The Time, I must go"
So I yell:  "That’s Just the Way You Are

After I turn to see that She’s Got Away
I wrote this parody of Allentown

"Allentown" – Billy Joel

Well we're living here in Allentown
And they're closing all the factories down
Out in Bethlehem they're killing time
Filling out forms
Standing in line
Well our fathers fought the Second World War
Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore
Met our mothers in the USO
Asked them to dance
Danced with them slow
And we're living here in Allentown

But the restlessness was handed down
And it's getting very hard to stay

Well we're waiting here in Allentown
For the Pennsylvania we never found
For the promises our teachers gave
If we worked hard
If we behaved
So the graduations hang on the wall
But they never really helped us at all
No they never taught us what was real
Iron and coke
And chromium steel
And we're waiting here in Allentown

But they've taken all the coal from the ground
And the union people crawled away

Every child had a pretty good shot
To get at least as far as their old man got
But something happened on the way to that place
They threw an American flag in our face

Well I'm living here in Allentown
And it's hard to keep a good man down
But I won't be getting up today

And it's getting very hard to stay
And we're living here in Allentown
